Royal Enfield Social Mission
Some partnerships provide resources. Others help shape a vision.
Our relationship with Royal Enfield Social Mission has been one of shared purpose, grounded in a belief that the future of the Himalayas lies in strengthening its communities, preserving its heritage, and creating livelihoods that honour both people and place.
Since the beginning of our partnership, Royal Enfield Social Mission has stood alongside The Woolknitters in reimagining what a thriving Himalayan wool economy can look like. Their support has enabled us to build community-led craft hubs, revive endangered textile traditions, strengthen local wool value chains, and create meaningful opportunities for women across Himachal Pradesh.
Together, we have worked across regions including Janjehli, Badhai, and Lahaul, where women have been trained in knitting, weaving, crochet, and the revival of the traditional Tsug-den carpet. What began as skill development has evolved into something much greater. Women who once practised these crafts only within their homes are today producing for national and international markets, leading production teams, participating in quality control, and contributing to design and product development.
The impact of this partnership extends beyond craft. It has fostered confidence, leadership, and financial independence among hundreds of women while helping preserve knowledge that has been passed down through generations. At the same time, it has renewed the value of Himalayan wool, encouraging the use of natural fibres and supporting more sustainable, locally rooted production systems.
Royal Enfield Social Mission has also made it possible for The Woolknitters to collaborate with designers, storytellers, researchers, and institutions, creating new opportunities to present Himalayan craftsmanship to wider audiences while ensuring that the communities behind it remain at the heart of every endeavour.
This partnership reflects a shared belief that heritage is not something to be preserved behind glass it is something that must continue to be practised, adapted, and valued by the people who inherit it. Every artisan trained, every traditional technique revived, and every handcrafted piece created stands as a testament to what can be achieved when long-term support is paired with community knowledge and local leadership.
As we continue this journey, we remain deeply grateful to Royal Enfield Social Mission for their trust, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to the people and traditions of the Himalayas. Their support has helped transform an idea into a growing movement one that celebrates wool, empowers women, strengthens rural livelihoods, and ensures that the rich textile heritage of Himachal Pradesh continues to thrive for generations to come.
